Sonja holds a specialization in Mathematical Sciences and works as a pedagogical advisor and mathematics teacher at the Nikola Tesla School of Electrical Engineering in Niš. She views her teaching role as guiding students into the world of mathematics — but in diverse, often nonstandard and innovative ways.
In recent years, she has been exploring the use of artificial intelligence through various models tailored for teachers (as a Magic School AI Ambassador) and for students. She is one of the founders of the Niš Mathematics NGO – NiMat, and through the popularization of mathematics and related sciences — particularly by organizing numerous “Mathematics in May” festivals — she and her colleagues have helped many children stop seeing mathematics as something intimidating.
With more than 20 years of experience using educational software in teaching, especially GeoGebra, she has contributed to redefining mathematical standards for secondary education and to integrating mathematical educational applets into regular classroom practice. She is the author of numerous papers published in national and international journals and is recognized as a speaker at scientific and professional conferences both in Serbia and abroad.
As a Scientix Ambassador, she has contributed to the popularization of STEM and STEAM education, working with other teachers and empowering them to view their roles differently and act in accordance with the needs and trends of the 21st century.
